Yahoo! provides a free email service with 3 megs of storage space that is accessible from any web browser. 
This is a convenient service, especially for those with ISPs that won't allow them to access mail from multiple locations.
There are hundreds of free email services, but Yahoo! and Hotmail are the two largest services and offer the most convenient interface.  Excite also offers free email and toll free voicemail that is sent to your mailbox as a wav file.
